Mindful Gifting – A Sustainable Guide for Shopping Small this Holiday Season
November 05, 2020
There are so many wonderful things about the holidays – the cosy vibes, the cheerful music, the feelings of joy and the sense of community. But the holiday’s can also bring a higher level of stress surrounding gifts, money, excessive waste, and health. As the holiday season approaches and we begin to think about gifting, we like to take the time to think about how we could be a more conscious consumer. It’s important to remember that gift giving is more about the thought and less about the material items - or “mindful gifting”.
We wanted to carry this mindset of mindful gifting into the holiday season by putting together a sustainable holiday gift guide. This guide is filled with gift ideas that offer a little something more than just a gift, but also show your support and love for the small businesses who created them. Each item was mindfully made with love by local Vancouver creatives and makers and we couldn’t be more excited to show them our support over the holiday season.
Let’s get gifting!
One of our favourite clean and minimal dinnerware pieces! Perfect for the home decor lover, or someone who recently settled into a new place. These plates can be bought on their own or as part of a dinnerware set. Shop pieces individually or gift the whole set.
We’re all about cozying up at home for a night of self-care. These candles are eco-friendly, hand-poured and made with soy wax. The perfect addition to any holiday evening (not to mention they smell amazing).
Transform your home office into a creative escape with the Aroma Rise Diffuser from Saje. Pairs perfectly with our Wellness Planner or a set of essential oils. Soothing scents are a great way to boost productivity.
We get so many compliments when we wear our Supercrush face masks and we couldn’t recommend them enough. Whether you’re commuting to work, grabbing a coffee, or stepping out for a walk, you’ll need a face mask. So why not be cute and comfy? We also love how they come in so many different colours and patterns.
Every item from Harly Jae is designed and handmade right here in Vancouver. These adaptable pieces are perfect for everything from running errands to attending a (small) holiday gathering. Versatile and clean, this piece is perfect for you and the chic babe in your life.
Handcrafted jewelry that is both trendy and delicate. These hoops create the perfect ear stack and are sure to catch the eye of that certain special someone. We pair these cuties with the Grace and Lilli Huggies.
All of the planters from Hudson + Oak are lovingly created in Vancouver, BC and each planter is painted to order using water-based paint (yay, environment!). The perfect blush planter that’s perfect for the plant-lover in your life.
The perfect gift for the minimalist traveller in your life. Londre’s thoughtfully designed swimwear is quality, long-lasting and insanely flattering. Oh and not to mention, their bodywear is made ethically and sustainably in Canada from upcycled plastic bottles.
This matcha is the real deal. We love drinking matcha to help with focus, calm our digestive system, and support brain function. The perfect gift for anyone who wants to make the switch or enjoy something new, flavourful, and absolutely delicious.
Clean beauty has never looked (and smelled) so good! Woodlot’s Nourishing Facial Oil is for the friend who wants clear, glowy skin all year round. This is one of the best facial oils out there and pairs perfectly with the rest of their non-toxic, all-natural skincare line.
If you’re looking for more than just a facial, look no further. Since we could all use a little rest and relaxation right now, what better way to treat yourself or someone you love with the gift of self-care. Shop a curated selection of clean skincare on their online shop.
Ready to crush the new year? Our 2021 Planner is designed to help you stay on top of all your goals all year round with check-ins and everything you need to be productive, so you can always feel like your best self.
As a female-owned small business ourselves, we are proud to support other female-owned businesses. We hope you’re inspired to support small businesses this holiday season by being mindful of where you make your purchases and what’s on your wish list this year.
We also shared some of our favourite small businesses on our Instagram so you can show your support there too!
